Mythic Heart Theatre is a Maine-based performance company led by performance artist Kristi Williamson and visual artist Kathryn Oliver. We create immersive, participatory performances that bring audiences into shared environments where movement, music, visual art, poetry, and storytelling unfold as a living experience.

Audiences are invited to participate through singing, gentle movement, and other shared actions, dissolving the boundary between performer and audience. Seating is provided, and participation is always optional. Performances unfold as shifting scenes, environments, and characters drawn from strange, mythic worlds.

We draw from myth, fairy tale, and ritual, as well as literature from other writers and traditions and original writing, using mask work and visual storytelling to explore shared human experiences—memory, transformation, relationship, loss, and renewal. These works invite curiosity, wonder, and reflection through symbolic, layered performance.

Each piece is collaboratively developed. Kathryn shapes the visual and structural world of the work through story, film, masks, sets, and costumes. Kristi develops the embodied performance through movement, voice, song, acting, and mask work, and shares in directing each production.

Rooted in the landscapes and seasonal rhythms of Maine, our work is created for community audiences across generations. We foster connection—to story, place, nature, community, self, and the sacred—through experiences that invite attention, imagination, and presence.
